Re:Charge | Lake Atitlán, Guatemala | Travelspective

Unplug your spirit.

It is said to be an old and ancient Mayan belief that the lake running through the very heart of the Guatemalan highlands holds healing waters. In today’s society there is no shortage of stressors, so the thought of being able to completely disconnect from it all and re-center your soul sounds absolutely invigorating. This could explain why many of the travelers we met at the enchanting Lake Atitlán do not feel compelled to ever return to their normal lives abroad. It’s miraculous how peacefully remote the highlands feel. Tucked in between the mountains and volcanoes, the sparkling Lake Atitlán is an under-the-radar gem that is still very much untouched by tourism, which is one of the many reasons we’re completely enamored with it.

We spent our days taking in the morning mist floating in off the water while meditating and then tucked into the fresh produce from the permaculture food forest that sits dreamily above the lake. Surrounded by healers and artists who helped us find the beauty in everyday life, we sang blessings before each meal and were consciously living and interacting with nature. A different energy settles in here and getting lost on the lake was a transformative experience.
